Social gerontology students from Alma Mater Europaea University (Maribor) visited social service providers in the City of Zagreb
As part of their study trip, accompanied by their professors, social gerontology students from Alma Mater Europaea University from Maribor/Slovenia, visited institutions in the City of Zagreb that provide social services to users.
They visited a full-day stay for the elderly and those with dementia and home help services at the Home for the Elderly “Sveti Josip Zagreb”, as well as the “Silver Rehabilitation Center”, which implements rehabilitation programs for children with developmental disabilities and people with disabilities. As part of the program, they also visited the homeless shelter of the “Zagreb Red Cross City Society”. In Kosnica, the students also had the opportunity to see the thermal block of the Institution of the City of Zagreb DOBRI DOM, where meals are prepared daily for the users of the soup kitchen.
The study tour ended in one of the three soup kitchens of the DOBRI DOM, at Alfirevićeva str., where the deputy head, Dr. sc. Romana Galić introduced the work of the City Office for Social Protection, Health, Veterans and Persons with Disabilities, which is also the organizer of this visit, which is focused on meeting basic life needs, but also improving the quality of life of its fellow citizens. At the end of the visit, the principal of DOBRI DOM, Alen Župan, informed the guests about the measures implemented within the Institution. The feedback and impressions of students and professors from Maribor are extremely positive, and further cooperation through the exchange of experiences in a return visit was agreed.
The Institution will continue to develop cooperation with the university community (University of Applied Health Sciences - Zagreb, Faculty of Food and Biotechnology - Zagreb, Faculty of Law/Social Work Studies - Zagreb, Alma Mater Europaea University - Maribor) to mutual satisfaction and benefit, as a relevant place for conducting practical classes for interdisciplinary areas that are united in the DOBRI DOM.
