Prevention, Epidemiological Characteristics, and the Stigma of Infectious Diseases in Long-Term Care Facilities.
At the Teaching Institute of Public Health “Dr. Andrija Štampar”, the 231st Gerontology Forum was held on the topic: “Prevention, Epidemiological Characteristics, and the Stigma of Infectious Diseases in Long-Term Care Facilities.”
Experts highlighted the importance of timely epidemiological surveillance, continuous staff education, and the destigmatization of infectious diseases in nursing homes and long-term care institutions.
🩺 Prim. Dr. Sc. Mirjana Lana Kosanović Ličina spoke about the key challenges in the prevention and response to infectious diseases in long-term care facilities, emphasizing the importance of early symptom recognition and coordinated action among healthcare professionals.
🗣️ Mila Podgornjak, Univ. Mag. Psych., presented the topic of stigmatization of people affected by infectious diseases and its impact on seeking timely medical assistance, treatment outcomes, and controlling the spread of diseases within the community.
The strong turnout of participants once again confirmed the importance of continuous education, prevention, and preserving the dignity of residents in long-term care facilities.
