Award ceremony on the occasion of the Day of the City of Zagreb - 31.5.2020. Institutions "Dobri dom" of the City of Zagreb For delivery and distribution of hot meals to citizens in need during epidemics and during earthquakes

On the occasion of Zagreb City Day on May 31 in the presence of Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and numerous dignitaries, in the Congress Hall of the Zagreb Fair, the award ceremony of the City of Zagreb was held. Institution "Dobri dom" of the City of Zagreb and all its employees received a great recognition - the Medal of the City of Zagreb for selfless contribution to the citizens of the City of Zagreb by delivering and distributing hot meals during the coronavirus epidemic and after the earthquake. On behalf of the Institution, the award was received by the principal Alen Župan, Master of Social Gerontology. This year, the Day of the City of Zagreb was marked in unique circumstances.

The time of the coronavirus and the consequences of the earthquake leave painful traces in many, but it also shows the most valuable thing among us: mutual respect, understanding and a willingness to help those who need it most.

DOBRI DOM, as an Institution of the City of Zagreb under the auspices of the City Office for Social Protection and Persons with Disabilities, from the end of February to mid-May, without interruption, prepared and distributed:

170,000 hot meals to users of soup kitchens at 7 locations (in cooperation with Caritas of the Zagreb Archdiocese, the Red Cross of the City of Zagreb, Caritas of the Parish of St. Anthony of Padua on the Holy Spirit;
more than 40,000 meals were prepared for the intervention services of the City of Zagreb (Zagreb Fire Brigade, Teaching Institute for Emergency Medical Aid – City of Zagreb, Teaching Institute for Public Health "Dr. Andrija Štampar"); Every day our staff delivered more than 45,000 hot meals to homes for the elderly and infirm
In extraordinary circumstances in April and May more than 1,500 families took over its monthly food pacts at the Zagreb Fair;
Despite the earthquake that hit the City of Zagreb, all our employees were available it to their fellow citizens, the dining rooms were working, the delivery of meals took place as usual (380 meals), and by 11.30 am we had prepared and delivered 2500 hot meals to the center of the City of Zagreb to the citizens and emergency services;
All social services we provide are provided in very controlled conditions due to the epidemiological situation, in accordance with the recommendations of the Croatian Institute of Public Health and good hygiene practice that the Institution has been implementing for 16 years.

This honorable recognition is an incentive for all of us in the GOOD HOME to work even harder and work in the community to protect the most vulnerable citizens of our City of Zagreb.
