Mayor Tomašević visited the Homeless Shelter in Kosnica and the emergency services on New Year's Eve (Teaching Institute for Emergency Medicine of the City of Zagreb, JVP Zagreb, PU Zagrebačka), showing his gratitude and support to all those who work there. At the Red Cross Homeless Shelter, he spoke with the beneficiaries, listened to their stories and shared dinner. Along with Mayor Tomašević, the shelter in Kosnica was visited by Deputy Mayor Luka Korlaet, Lora Vidović - Head of the City Office for Social Protection, Health, Veterans and Persons with Disabilities, Ivica Golubić - Director of the Zagreb City Social Welfare Office, and Alen Župan – Principal of the DOBRI DOM Institution of the City of Zagreb.

“The law has changed in the past year, so that those who come to the shelter no longer lose their right to financial compensation. I am very pleased with this because it allows users of the system to maintain their financial security while seeking accommodation and support,” the mayor said, continuing.

“As for social policies, I am pleased that Zagreb has the lowest risk of poverty rate in Croatia. According to EU data, we are the 15th region by this criterion, which shows enormous progress.”

He announced the further improvement of social policies so that as few people as possible in Zagreb would be at risk. He also reminded how last year the EU declared Zagreb the European capital of inclusion and diversity due to social policies.

In the lodging house DOBRI DOM at Ilica 29, from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m., 20 beds are available to the homeless and the possibility of maintaining personal hygiene in the DIJANA Public Bath.

At the moment, 75 people are accommodated in the shelter in Kosnica, 40-45 people in the overnight accommodation at the same location. Capacities are sufficient - currently there are slightly less than 50 free beds. There is increased pressure, but it is still possible to respond to the needs of users.

DOBRI DOM prepares daily meals for the users of the shelter and overnight accommodation in Kosnica (since 2010), and the users of the overnight accommodation in Ilica 29 (since 2023).
