Conference "For a Childhood Without Poverty: Challenges, Policies, and Solutions"
To mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and Social Exclusion, the City of Zagreb organized a conference titled "For a Childhood Without Poverty: Challenges, Policies, and Solutions"
The conference was opened by the Mayor of the City of Zagreb, Tomislav Tomašević.
The conference presented the findings of a study titled "Well-being and Needs of School-Age Children in the City of Zagreb," conducted in Zagreb’s primary and secondary schools. This is the first study of its kind in Zagreb, offering insights into children's perspectives on the realization of their rights and the opportunities available for the full development of their potential.
A children’s panel—"Children Speak: What Does a World Look Like Where Every Child Has Equal Opportunities?"—featured primary and secondary school students, who shared their own perspectives. Additionally, a panel of experts from the social welfare, education, and civil society sectors engaged in a discussion titled "Beyond the Numbers: Understanding Child Poverty and Pathways to Change."
The conference served as an opportunity to discuss existing measures and activities, as well as the further steps required to combat and prevent poverty among children and young people. The goal of the conference is to create a space for exchanging experiences regarding results achieved thus far and, through the active participation of relevant stakeholders—including children and young people—to formulate proposals for future activities. These proposals will serve as a foundation for developing and adopting the Zagreb Action Plan for Combating Child Poverty and Social Exclusion for the upcoming period (City of Zagreb). Representing "Dobri dom," the conference was attended by Suzana Rožić Pavelić, Petra Škrnjug, and Alen Župan.
