4. Congress of the sanitary profession with international participation
The 4th congress of the environmental health profession (Croatia, Biograd na moru, 19.10.-21.10.2023.) once again showed the importance of this profession in preserving and promoting a generally healthy life, environmental protection, and food safety.
The goal of this Congress is to show the sanitary profession as a necessary link in the health care system, but also in other areas, which works with the aim of raising people's awareness and in a practical/applicative sense about the importance of a healthy lifestyle as prevention and preservation of health, both for individuals and the whole community. Thanks to the participation of experts in the environmental health profession and related professions from other countries, the congress had international significance, which ultimately enabled the necessary exchange of experiences and acquired knowledge. By working together, we can improve and preserve the health of both the individual and the community, and find answers to the questions we encounter in our daily work. For the last 20 years of its existence, the Institution, like a part of the City of Zagreb social politics, has been applying very high standards of environmental health - hygienic protection with the aim of daily implementation of social services through a healthy and safe final product. The disruptive crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the earthquake and a large number of displaced persons, has changed the previous paradigm of behavior and work and once again demonstrated the social importance of development and implementation of social services in the community as a necessary help in meeting the essentials citizens' need (help in food package, hot meal, delivery of lunch to elderly people at home) in social protection needs. Each subject in the food business is obliged to establish a system in accordance with the conditions and processes in the facility self-control based on good hygiene practices and HACCP principles.
Continuous monitoring of critical control points and the implementation of corrective measures contributes to the stated goal, especially in crisis situations for a longer period of time.
The goal of established self-control systems is prevention and risk reduction potential dangers to a minimum and emphasis on healthy and safe food. The establishment of an effective system of self-control in crisis situations is only possible if they were previously established prerequisites, and good hygiene and production practices upgraded with health and environmental health - hygienic safety protocols which, with the diligent and careful work of the DOBRI DOM staff, made it possible to continuously prepare and distribute 3.11 million hot meals over 1020 days (in sequence, without stopping) for vulnerable citizens, citizens - victims of the earthquake, displaced persons, health services, members of civil services protection, fire department units. With further additional caution and application of measures to protect the health of service users and their own health, certain implemented "crisis" epidemiological measures are still an integral part of health and environmental health - hygienic safety protocols within the HUMANE FRAMEWORK of the Institution's activities, through SAFETY, QUALITY, AVAILABILITY, EFFICIENCY, RELIABILITY, RESPONSIBILITY AND TRUST, which are at the centre of every decision that is made.
