20 years of operation of the Dobri dom Institution of the City of Zagreb
20 years in the service of the needy - the DOBRI DOM institution celebrated its big anniversary precisely on the World Day of Social Justice. Her mission all these years has been the fight against poverty and social exclusion.
On the occasion of the World Day of Social Justice, the Mayor of the City of Zagreb Tomislav Tomašević and the deputies Danijela Dolenec and Luka Korlaet, together with their colleagues, together with the director Alen Župan, took part today in marking the 20th anniversary of the operation of the Institution of the City of Zagreb DOBRI DOM in the Public Kitchen.
In the DOBRI DOM Mayor Tomislav Tomašević reflected on the importance of that institution, as well as on the importance of folk cuisine.
"The social program of the City of Zagreb is aimed at groups at the greatest risk of poverty and social exclusion, and is realized through the systems of social assistance and social services, through the Decision on Social Welfare, which covers over 90,000 fellow citizens, and for the implementation of which over 28 million euros have been provided said Mayor Tomaševic.
"Through the Institution of the City of Zagreb DOBRI DOM 1,717 fellow citizens are provided with one hot meal every day of the year in three public dining halls, and the City provided over 1.5 million euros for this in 2024."
Without DOBRI DOM, a good part of our social policy would not be possible. We are constantly looking at how to improve the capacity of DOBRI DOM, how to include even more users through our programs in some other way. Likewise, I must say that the deinstitutionalization of social policy and social welfare is what is the future of our politics, what is progressive in all social policies of Western European countries, explained the mayor of Zagreb.
"In addition to the public kitchen, the DOBRI DOM provides meal delivery services to homes, help with family packages and help with dairy food for families with children," said the mayor, and he congratulated all the employees of the institution on their 20th anniversary, thanking them for their sacrifice and the love they provide to the most vulnerable groups through their daily work.
Director Župan thanked the City of Zagreb and all the employees who participated in their work all these years, pointing out that the DOBRI DOM is an institution ready to accept the future challenges ahead. Humanity above all, human solidarity and social services focused on the person as a result of managing the demand for social services within the social protection system of the City of Zagreb and most importantly, satisfied users are the purpose of the institution's work. Strongly integrated public health and sanitary hygiene safety protocols are the guarantor of healthy and safe meals and the environment in which the services are provided. The daily hard work of the employees confirms that the DOBRI DOM is truly a home that cares, supports and empowers.
