International Labor Day celebrated in Maksimir Park

Along with the traditional distribution of beans (with sausages, neck, barley and bacon) and “štrukli” with cheese, and a musical and cultural program, Zagreb's Maksimir Park celebrated International Labor Day, organized by the City of Zagreb, in cooperation with the Institution of the City of Zagreb DOBRI DOM, the Institution of the City of Zagreb Nature, and the Maksimir Cultural Centre.

Several tens of thousands of visitors gathered in Maksimir, who were given 35,000 servings of beans with side dishes and 30,000 servings of “štrukli”, and enjoyed performances by the Zagreb ZET Orchestra, the Ante Gelo Band, whose guests included Marko Tolja, Mia Dimšić and The Voice Kids contestants, as well as many children's choirs and dance groups. Mariachi Los Caballeros and the Ljetno kino band also gave a concert.

The preparation and distribution of the 1st of May beans with side dishes is truly a great challenge for our Institution, and we are once again approaching it with maximum seriousness and responsibility, regardless of the 21 years of operation of the DOBRI DOM and the 33 million meals prepared within the framework of our activities. All employees of the DOBRI DOM have done their utmost in the past few weeks, and especially in the very valuable and active 18 hours of work that include the preparation, delivery and distribution of beans with side dishes, so that the celebration went smoothly to the satisfaction of visitors.

The Institution also participated in the organization of the event by providing emergency medical teams, drinking water for citizens, purchasing mobile toilets, distribution stands and dining benches, as well as tents, flooring and protective fences. The celebration was also attended by employees of the City Office for Social Protection, Health, Veterans and Persons with Disabilities, and the Zagreb Red Cross. In our work, we persistently apply hygiene and sanitary standards and implemented safety protocols, always keeping in mind the public health and social significance of our work.
